Here are ten activities I have put together (in no particular order) for some ideas on what to do this season. Make sure to check their sites for hours of operations, prices and ticket information, and any changes or closures due to covid-19 for your health and safety. We have done some of these activities all ready this year and I am looking forward to getting to more on the list. Make sure to read to the end, there may just be a little free gift. With that being said we will get right into it.
Wright City, MO 63390
A pumpkin patch located in Wright City not very far from I-70. It is a real working farm which starting in 1988 and has now grown to over 100 acres of pumpkins. They have all kinds of fun going on during their open business hours with new attractions added yearly. They are open weekdays and weekends. Their activities very depending on if it is during the week or on the weekend. They have items from a petting zoo, bounce house, and straw maze to pumpkin chunkin', hay rides, and a chainsaw artist! They have food and live music during the weekends. With so many fun attractions going on do not forget you can pick your own pumpkin from a pumpkin patch or just grab some from their selections to take home and carve for Halloween.

Big Joel's Safari offers an up close and personal experience with animals of all types from mild to wild. You can purchase feed to feed the animals which allows them to get really close. They also have a parakeet encounter. You can get feed on a stick and they will fly around you and land to your hand to eat the feed off the stick! Some kids enjoy this and some are a little overwhelmed by it to say the least. Who does not want a jungle gym to play on made out of tires, tubes, and a wooden train is a hit with the kiddos as well. During October they transform the park into Joel's Spooky Safari.
*Big Joel's Safari has teamed up with Pumpkins Galore an created a corn maze for more enjoyment.
High Hill, MO 63350
Play Day Farm is a must this fall season!! They have a variety of rides you and your kids can both ride. The slide, train, and tilt-a-whirl would have to be my son and I's favorite. The rides take a different number of tickets to ride. You can also go through a corn maze, pick a pumpkin, and see farm animals. Wonderful place for some good olé belly laugher.
Marthasville, MO 63357
Looking for some fresh hand picked apples by you? Then Thierbach Orchard is the place for you. You can take a short wagon ride to their apple orchard to hand pick apples yourself. They have several different types of apples which are ripe and ready for picking. If picking them yourself is not something you are looking to do that is fine, they have already picked apples you can just grab and go. On the property they have fun activities for the kids. Nothing like a homemade apple pie hand picked by you!
Columbia, MO 65202
The corn maze opened in 2002, but the farm has been a working farm in the family since 1889. This corn maze is one for the books. The maze is 16 acres!! They create a new design each year and always fun to see what it will. Be prepared to spend some time in the maze. It usually takes an hour to two hours to walk the maze and complete all the checkpoint questions. Once you have completed the check points you can check your answers to see which ones you got right. (We like to not use our phones and not cheat to see who really got them right when finished.) You can put them in for a drawing depending on how many you answered correctly. You can also enjoy the jumping pillow, roaring campfire, pumpkin patch, and more. Inside their main building is the neatest bubble gum machine!!! Just 25 cents and you can watch your gum ball go up to the top of the building and make it's way carefully down the the gum ball's personal roller coaster down to you.
Augusta, MO 63332
Looking to get out and get close to nature? Klondike park is one park we visit often. This fall season watch as the trees change colors. They have a beautiful lake to fish or kayak on. Tons of trails you can walk, run, or ride a bike on. Wedding and event renting is available. If you are looking for a new place to go camping be sure to check Klondike park out. They have bathrooms and playgrounds located inside the park. Grab the kids and make a scavenger hunt for a walk around the park.
St. Louis, MO 63110
The Saint Louis Zoo is always a chart topper zoo and never disappoints. I great fact about the zoo is: it is still FREE!!!! All you have to do is make a reservation and you can enter the zoo at your time and stay as long as you like until the park closes. So many animals to see and fun interactive exabits to do. The zoo also gets festive with halloweeknds and boo at the zoo. We like too many places here to name a favorite and they are always improving and building.
Jefferson City, MO 65101
Looking for something a little more scary? Why not sign up for a ghost tour in a real penitentiary!? The Missouri State Penitentiary (MSP) was decommissioned in 2004 and now is a great historic landmark located downtown Jefferson City. You can choose one of the three tours they offer; history, ghost, or photography tour. You will get a chance to walk around the historic housing unites, upper yard of the property and the gas chambers. It is said 40 men and women were executed in the gas chambers. If this gets you excited but you are looking for more then ask about the available paranormal investigations. They have a few paranormal choices from 3 hour ghost hunt to and 8 hour overnight (yes you read that right!) stay. If you are not scared and think you are up to spending the night in the penitentiary, then this is a great activity for you this Halloween!
St. Louis, MO 63104

They are ranted some of the best and scariest of the world! The company has built haunted houses all over the world and for some clients like Six Flags and Universal Studios. The Darkness is ranked the BEST in America's haunted houses. This year marks the 27th year of fear and comes with a new renovation for a longer and scarier experience yet. All the houses are a different theme such as; a graveyard, house, prison, ect. which you have to walk through all of them to get to the exit. You can get a combo ticket to do both haunted places.
